Student Photographer of the YearCarolyn Van Houten, UNC Chapel HillErin O\'Loughlin embraces her son Brendan after his brother Marcus, who has severe autism, hurt him while playing on the trampoline behind their home in Cary, NC. As Marcus has grown, he has become violent. He is larger than Brendan and his mother, Erin. Because of that size difference, Erin has to hide from Marcus when he is having a violent outburst. After Marcus gave his teacher a concussion at school one day, the O\'Loughlins decided to put him into a long-term care facility; however, the wait list is long. The family is deeply concerned about how to cope in the meantime.
